On why it’s important to let negativity fuel you.

“When I was in college, I had a coach that wasn’t so fond of me. To this day, I still don’t know why. I remember the first day of track practice in college he said, “what do you want to do, what is your goal?’ I said I want to be an Olympian, and he laughed at me. We always had this weird, strange relationship because I just felt like he was always picking on me, and I don’t know if it was because I was a really nice person and I didn’t talk back and everybody else kind of did. My senior year of college, I ended up having to make a decision on going to nationals in the 4×100 and hopefully winning a national championship for him and the team or start on my business. My mom said, ‘your film date is on the same day as nationals so you have to kind of figure out which one you want to do.’ To be honest, I wasn’t that fond of him, and I didn’t want to win a chanmpionship for him, when I could be going to start my life as an adult. I remember I went to his office and I said hey coach, I just wanted to tell you that I’m in the position to start my business/my life or go to nationals and unfortunately, both of these opportunities are on the same date and I’m going to end up choosing to go home so that I can start my business. And I remember that he laughed at me and he was like, ‘wow, you’re going to have to do something really great in life to make up for this and I’m pretty sure you won’t.’ And oh my gosh, he just did not know that he lit a fire under me because when I left, that same year I filmed a talk show, I had a DVD come out, and I went on tour for fitness. I came back 2 years later and I saw him and it was very akward and he was like, ‘wow, I heard you’re doing some pretty big things in life,’ and I was like yeah, you told me I wouldn’t, and I just walked away.”
