UNITED WE SWEAT! A Day Without A Woman Workout at Spelman College

On International Women’s Day (3/8/17), PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT teamed up with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated (Eta Kappa Chapter) to present a #DayWithoutAWoman Workout at Spelman College!

Long lines formed outside of Manley Atrium as 100 women arrived early and eager to connect creatively to withdraw from the corporations that harm us and find ways to support the organizations and communities that sustain us.

After making it inside, guests were greeted by volunteers with a PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT t-shirt in Spelman’s Columbia blue hue.

Old friends embraced with hugs and caught up with a candid conversation while new #SweatSisters headed to the “Wall of Wisdom” to read and write some inspiring messages.

After a warm welcome by members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Eta Kappa), PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT founder Aeshia DeVore Branch got the fitness party started with a fun icebreaker game. Students and mentors were prompted to introduce themselves to one another and come up with a team name that incorporates their group’s assigned color.

Next up, was a meeting of the minds as each group worked hard to complete a women’s history quiz before their opponents.

The friendly competition was filled with lots of laughs and tons of energy proving that PRETTY GIRLS are SMART too!

Before breaking a sweat, guests interlocked hands to recite the PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT pledge.

Sweat Sisters enjoyed a high-energy workout led by TOTAL FITNESS REVOLUTION CO-OWNER Lauren Whitmore Powers and Eta Kappa / Mahogany-N-Motion member Mikela Levi. After a heart-pumping warm-up, guests learned creative choreography to the soundtrack of Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls).”

Social media sensation/singer Summerella surprised guests by stopping by to join the fun!

Students were in for a treat when actress Keshia Knight-Pulliam, who is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated’s Eta Kappa chapter stopped by after the workout to offer some words of encouragement.

Female executives, who attribute active lifestyles to their success, led a “women in sports” panel promoting the importance of mentorship, fitness, and self-care.

Panelists included L to R: PGS founder Aeshia DeVore Branch, media personality Rashan Ali, The Cut Life creative director Maya Table, Emory Sports Medicine Fellow Dr. Ashley McCann, Entertainment Lawyer / “Little Ballers Indiana” producer Adrienne Lopez, and Total Fitness Revolution co-owner Lauren Whitmore Powers!

Some lucky students scored additional PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT merchandise including drawstring backpacks and water bottles, but no one left empty-handed. Each guest received beauty gift bags filled with Taliah Waajid’s natural hair products and refueled with water and healthy snacks.

“The PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT event at Spelman College was a beautiful expose of sisterhood, fitness, and fun,” says Rashan Ali (pictured rear left). “The backdrop of this historical institution, college women and the informative panel discussion allowed for an evening of excellence.”
