After dealing with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, Mukisa, a 32-year-old auditor, and Megan, a 31-year-old financial specialist, turned to the gym to strengthen their minds and bodies.
The Prince George’s County, Maryland natives, became dedicated to improving their well-being. So they began collaborating with trainers, investing in physical education, and participating in local bootcamps to observe how various instructors facilitated large group sessions.
Their journey ignited their passion for cultivating an energetic women’s wellness experience that empowers, encourages, and evolves women of all backgrounds. So they joined forces, and DOUBLE MPACT was born. Keep reading to learn more about our November 2021 photo contest winners!

Tell us how your winning photo came about?
It came from our first branding photoshoot before launching DOUBLE MPACT in 2020 with photographer Jendayi Asha!
Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.
We’ve both experienced significant life-changing events such as deaths, car accidents, and other traumatic situations, which aided in us wanting better for ourselves not only physically but holistically. Our fitness journey started back in 2016 to strengthen our body and mind simultaneously; however, we fell in love with the process during that process. As a result, we found ourselves transforming lives as we were changing our own! As the saying goes, we turned pain into purpose and purpose into profit!
We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! So what is your favorite group fitness workout?
We would certainly say a total body focus workout— burpees, mountain climbers, and plank jacks are always at the top of our list for mixing fun and burning calories!
While working out is essential, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?
Mukisa: my go-to pre-workout meal is sliced apples, and post-workout would be a high-protein vanilla smoothie paired with green beans and chicken fajitas.
Megan: my go-to pre-workout meal would be peanut butter topped rice cakes, and post-workout would be a vegan protein smoothie with spinach, bananas, strawberries, and almond milk.
What is one item that is always in your gym bag?
