4 tips and tricks to help you curb the sweet tooth!
When it comes to your health, sugar isn’t always sweet. Excessive sugar consumption can lead to many problems, such as diabetes, heart problems, fatigue, acne, tooth decay, and so much more. Learning how to curb your sugar intake can not only help you avoid these problems but also help you maintain a healthier diet and lifestyle overall. So, keep your hands out of the cookie jar, and check out these four tips below!
1. Eliminate Juice & Soda
Soda and processed juices contain very high amounts of sugar—far too much for daily consumption. Absentmindedly drinking these beverages at every meal leads to racking up not only an excessive amount of sugar but also an excessive amount of calories. Eliminating these beverages from your daily diet is a simple and effective way to prevent this from happening. Pssst…when you find yourself craving a sweet drink, consider making smoothies instead.
2. Use Sugar Alternatives
There are so many healthier yet equally tasty alternatives to cane sugar! When baking or preparing meals, nix the sugar and opt for an alternative. Molasses, honey, and pure maple syrup are great options, and there are always powder sweeteners like Stevia, too!
3. Eat More Healthy Fats
Research has shown that when consumed in adequate amounts, healthy fats, such as those found in poultry, red meat, eggs, and fish, satiate the stomach and allow you to feel more “full” throughout the day. This feeling of satiation will curb your usual sugar cravings and keep you from scooping up that ice cream!
4. Practice Moderation
There’s nothing wrong with honoring your cravings now and then. The key here, however, is discipline and moderation. Make sure that when you do eat sweets, you’re eating them by the recommended serving size. Remember, sweets and sugar should be a treat, not an entree.
