Tell us how your winning photo came about?
I actually had a photoshoot with my job for an event we were hosting with Tory Burch Sport. Our event was to help launch their new apparel line.
Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.
I started running track and field when I was five years old, and my love for the sport and movement transitioned me to wanting to take it further than just something recreational. I wanted to turn it into a lifelong career, so when I got to college, I changed my major to exercise science to understand the ‘why’ behind movement and fitness as a whole.
We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! So what is your favorite group fitness workout?
My favorite group fitness workout would definitely be my boxing HIIT classes that I teach at my job. I love how liberating boxing feels, and being able to tie it into HIIT workouts makes it that much better.
While working out is essential, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?
My favorite pre-workout meal is oatmeal with blueberries, a drizzle of honey, and coconut shredding with a side of green or lemon ginger tea, depending on the mood I’m in. If I feel like I didn’t get enough rest or am just feeling out of it, I’ll take some pre-workout as well. Post-workout, I’ll have a protein pineapple smoothie followed up with jasmine rice and my favorite protein, shrimp! With some veggies of course.
What is one item that is always in your gym bag?
My HEADPHONES! It helps me stay in tune and block out any distractions. It also helps me to fake it till I make it, lol.
What are your top 3 fitness Instagram accounts to follow?
1. @Kiaratheleader! That’s my girl. I absolutely adore her and her work ethic and how real and authentic she stays to the game. She’s sooo fricking smart.
2. @Mikmailhesfit, my girl as well! Her creativity is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I absolutely adore how creative her mind gets. She does movement that I wouldn’t even begin to think to do. It’s so simple, but yet so intricate, and I love that.
3. Lastly, @DrJohnRusin. I LOVE reading his articles. He’s very science-based and practical and helps me keep up with the latest performance movements.
I should also say I follow a ton of people that are so inspiring to me and help me push myself past my comfort zone. It’s so hard to find authentic people in the fitness industry these days, so I’m grateful to have found the ones that make impactful changes to people’s lives every day.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
Lol, that I was actually born and raised in Jamaica. My mom still lives there and all. People are usually surprised because I don’t have a thick Jamaican accent, but you’ll hear it if you stay around me long enough.
What are the top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?
1. Pure joy.
2. Being financially stable to allow for freedom to do what I want.
3. Continuously impacting those around me.
What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?
Lol, honestly? I think being “pretty” doesn’t mean your looks on the outside. I think it means how you treat your soul and how that, in turn, affects others. Showing up for yourself in ways that makes you happy to help bring joy to people around you. Whether that’s working out to feel good, eating healthy balanced meals, doing self-care things, taking care of your business (personal and professional), all while handling life stressors but remaining a genuine and empathetic person to people. I think that’s what it means to me.
Since PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, what is your favorite deodorant?
Dove for sure! I always feel fresh even after I work out!
How can readers stay in touch with you on social media?
Definitely by DM’ing me @rnbeast__. I check my DMs almost every day, and I’m always eager to interact with people! Don’t be shy, say hi! 🙂
