Spinning Helped Flo Weinstein Conquer Her PTSD After Leaving the Military

credit: @championspin_

Spin instructor and Certified Personal trainer Flo Weinstein joined the military as a teen, and while she’s been an athlete her whole life, she fell in love with working out and helping others reach their goals during her service in the US NAVY. But, after leaving the military, things changed. The Memphis native turned Murfreesboro, TN resident’s mental health began to suffer and her enthusiasm for wellness waivered. Keep reading to learn how the 26-year-old, expecting a mini spin instructor in September, stays motivated!

Tell us how your winning photo came about?

In this photo, I just hit 37 weeks pregnant. I was feeling down because I swore I couldn’t get any bigger or tired! I just wanted to get cute and spend the day with myself. Then I had a mini photo shoot outside my spin studio!

Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.

I have been an athlete since high school. I joined the military at 17 and unofficially trained friends while I served. I loved helping people reach their goals.

After getting out of the military, I suffered from PTSD and depression that led to being the heaviest I’ve ever been. I tried many methods to get back in shape but wouldn’t remain consistent. Then I woke up one day in 2019 and said, “it’s time, Flo!” And I never looked back. This is also how I started training officially. After I fully transformed!

We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! So what is your favorite group fitness workout?

Spin class all day! (Not just any class though!)

While working out is essential, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?

My go-to pre-workout meal would have to be a non-citrusy fruit and any bread—carbs for life. After a workout, I like to have a full, balanced meal with protein, healthy fat, and carbs.

What is one item that is always in your gym bag?

Scrunchies!

What are your top 3 fitness Instagram accounts to follow?

I’d have to say Mecca Day, Libby Christensen, and Kristina Girod as far as individuals. PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, Gymshark, and Women’s Best for Community!

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I lived in Japan for five years and highly recommend visiting!

What are the top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?

  1. Take my spin studio global
  2. Impact as many women as possible
  3. Be the best mom to my little one.

What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?

PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT has always meant to me that it doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re in or what level you’re at. You can become the best version of yourself every day. Unfortunately, women of color do not get enough credit for what we endure, just existing, so I love that PGS celebrates women bettering themselves daily.

Since PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, what is your favorite deodorant?

Degree sport! ($4.29, Target)
