"It all started with an eager effort to support First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign."
PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT founder Aeshia DeVore Branch was inspired to solve the obesity epidemic in the US. The mother of three daughters, social entrepreneur, athlete, TV producer, Wilhelmina model and advocate for female students met award-winning singer Keri Hilson backstage at a concert in New Jersey and after the two shared their love for sports and learned that they both played high school basketball, they agreed to collaborate on an event for teen girls that would prove fitness could be fun. Hilson's empowering hit song "Pretty Girl Rock" served as the soundtrack for the September 24th, 2011 fitness party filled with dance routines and childhood games including jumping rope. Since then, PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT has transformed into a highly engaging, socially driven media platform and movement that encourages over 200,000 girls online and 23,000 girls in-person to “make fitness fun” and “sweat with a purpose”.
Fast-forward to today, and we are proud to announce the fearless females who will be leading PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT on their college campuses. They dare to dream big, take risks, and accept all the challenges that come their way. As they watch the country become so divided due to politics and racial tensions, they understand the importance of UNITING ALL GIRLS from ALL CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS and using health and wellness as a vehicle for CHANGE. From June 2018 to September 2018, they have been training to improve the game for girls and fight childhood obesity. The future is in their hands and we are SO INSPIRED by these health leaders.
