Zendaya Drops Playing Aaliyah in Lifetime Movie

Just when we thought Zendaya’s Race to the top was complete, it seems like the teen star has to take a water break in this game called entertainment. NY Daily News confirms that the “Replay” singer has backed out of playing Aaliyah Haughton in the Lifetime network biopic. Even though she has everything it takes to play the late R&B sensation, somehow she may feel that the role just isn’t for her. NY Daily News states:

The news of her departure comes less than two weeks after it was first announced that Zendaya would portray the "Back and Forth" singer in the Lifetime biopic, tentatively titled "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B."

One would think that the 17-year old star would have dreamed to play this role and although we are sure she turned it down with full respect for Aaliyah, maybe the feedback after her landing the Lifetime gig is what changed her mind. Here’s what she had to say upon the acceptance of the role.

"I'm just a 17 year old girl who got cast to play one of her biggest inspirations," (she wrote on June 16.)
"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter (than) ever, all I wanna do is honor her… she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven." - Zendaya Coleman

There haven’t been any recent comments from the Disney actress.

Tell us in the comment box below whether you think she should have kept the role or not? Why do you think she turned down the role two weeks after acceptance? Who do you think should play Aaliyah?
