Fierce females Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj released the visual for their catchy song “Swish Swish” on August 24th and in just 24 hours the video has racked up over 17 million views. The clip for the track off of Katy’s new album “Witness” follows the hilariously hard to watch ball game between Katy's team (The Tigers) and the fierce opposing team The Sheeps (led by Game of Thrones actor Hafþór Júlíus "Thor" Björnsson). Nicki Minaj pops in to deliver her verse during the game’s halftime show and creates another buzz-worthy moment in the video.
In celebration of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj’s viral basketball themed music video, we’re dishing out a few basketball tips perfect for beginner ballers. Keep reading to check out our advice to step your game up:
1. Warm up before getting in the game.
No one wants to have to miss games during the season due to injuries, so warm up before practicing or starting a game. Try different stretches and drills to raise your heart rate and prepare your muscles for the sport.
2. Practice shooting your shot.
Every player wants to score during the game, so it’s important to practice your shooting skills. You can improve the accuracy of your shots by shooting every day from a variety of positions. This will also help you recognize what your basketball shooting range is.
3. Study other players.
There’s no better way to learn than from watching the best. Watching footage of your favorite college and professional athletes can help you develop your game and fine tune your skills.
4. Master the basics first.
With basketball, it’s wise for beginners to start working on smaller skills first. Gaining confidence with basic moves such as dribbling will help build the foundation for more advanced moves such as slam dunking.
5. Keep your body in shape.
From running up and down the court to doing drills during practice, basketball is a physically demanding sport. We suggest developing a regular workout routine to increase flexibility, agility, and improve stamina.
