SOUND ON: Hear From Some Of The Best Female Athletes In These 5 Top Sports Podcasts

Category:

It's no secret that how you start your morning will set the tone for how the rest of your day will go. So since the first of January, I've remained dedicated to starting my days off by reflecting on what I'm grateful for, whipping up a healthy breakfast (yum, granola!), and turning on inspiring and empowering podcasts while I get ready. As you probably know — especially if you listen to them yourself — there are a ton of insightful podcasts out there. But the shows that leave me wanting to tune in each week share one common thread: they feature conversations with and about inspiring boss women!

Most recently, I've kept in rotation audio series about crazy-talented female athletes and sports professionals with captivating stories and trailblazing careers. For anyone looking to revamp their morning routine, below are some of the best female sports-focused podcasts to hit the ‘net — from shows hosted by women in the biz to those taking a deep dive into the lives of sportswomen who are CRUSHING IT.

1. The Fenom Effect

Hear from some of the most game-changing female athletes in one of Nike’s newest podcasts, Fenom Effect. From four-time WNBA Champion Maya Moore to snowboarding legend Chloe Kim, the series asks their famous guests to tell their remarkable stories and discuss a wide variety of topics stemming from today's pressing issues.

2. On Her Turf

The On Her Turf podcast gives you the chance to hear from champions on and off the field like Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and NBC correspondent/professional stuntwoman Jessie Graff. Not only do the highlighted women chat about sports, they dive deep into their passions — plus the lessons they've learned throughout their astounding careers.

3. Play Like A Girl

High school and college athletes will find themselves wrapped up in every word of the Play Like A Girl show. The series is made up of interviews with some of the sports world’s most talented athletes like Team USA Rugby player Megan Foster and professional golfer Natalie Gulbis — as well as roundtable discussions about gender equality and the need for greater female representation.

4. Hear Her Sports

Led by former professional athlete Elizabeth Emery, the Hear Her Sports podcast offers insight into the lives of influential figures in the industry. With 50 episodes to date, the podcast provides a platform for people like Collette Smith, the first African-American female coach in the NFL, to speak up about their professional contributions to sports and inspire listeners with their powerful words of wisdom.

5. Ball Girl Magic

Basketball analyst Ros Gold-Onwude and actress Yvonne Orji are serving up the best mixture of sports commentary and girl talk you'll ever find in a podcast. While the duo hasn't released a new episode of Ball Girl Magic since early 2018, you can still take a listen to their catalog of 23 episodes that include must-listen interviews with none other than the infamous Jemele Hill, ESPN journalist Cari Champion, and president and COO Of The L.A. Sparks Christine Simmons to only name a few.

6. The PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT Show

My roundup wouldn't be complete without a mention of PGS!!! The PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT Show highlights women who are balancing demanding careers with a healthy lifestyle and hurdling over personal and professional obstacles to reach their goals. Over the course of 16 episodes, the PGS podcast has sat down with noteworthy women like track and field/bobsled athlete Tiffeny Parker and host, athlete, and actress Christina Granville in sister-to-sister style chats that inform all who listen about the true power of breaking a sweat.
