October 22, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA – On Friday, October 11, Teen Diaries Foundation, a New Jersey based nonprofit that mentors teen girls through journalism and fitness, teamed with singer/songwriter Stacey Barthe to host a PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT AFTER SCHOOL HIKE sponsored by True Vision Media.
It was an afternoon filled with motivation, laughter, education, fitness, and excitement as over a dozen girls ages 13-18, who arrived via party bus and hiked nonstop up Los Angeles’ famed Runyon Canyon alongside Stacey and participating mentors. During the 45-minute hike, each teen was partnered with a mentor as their hiking buddy to discuss everything from fitness to career/personal goals. Everyone celebrated with high fives and cheers as each person made it to the top of Runyon. Mentors included, actress Elise Neal, singer Sabi, film producer Monica “Dollphace” Floyd, entrepreneur and social media maven, Karen Civil, 3xOlympian USA Volleyball Player Lindsey Berg, singer Shanice, painter and designer, Tonia Calderon, model / comedian Porsche Thomas, and music manager Jules Dougall. Co-owner of Fruition Las Vegas and founder of MISSION I’MPOSSIBLE Samantha Jo Alonso also stopped by to inspire teen guests with her fitness story while Ranger Russell Brown gave attendees a history lesson about the state park.
"One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to overcome was weight loss," says Stacey Barthe. "I lost 170 pounds. Music got me through my workouts. I would literally climb this mountain furiously blasting Jay-Z." Brand participants included Beats by Dre. Congrats to teen guest Meagan Furr for scoring a Beats By Dre pill for all of her upcoming sweat sessions!
