Meet Vynnessa Smith: Certified Personal Trainer, Athlete, and Fitness Vlogger

As an athlete, certified personal trainer, and YouTube fitness vlogger, Vynnessa Smith has truly immersed herself into a lifestyle of fitness and health. The former track athlete at Kennesaw State University and former football player in the Legends Football League, documents her fitness journey on her YouTube channel. Starting December 1st , she will be posting a video everyday of December for Vlogmas, which will include fitness tips, workouts, daily vlogs, and more. PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT got the chance to chat with Vynnessa about her fitness journey, who inspires her, the one item always in her gym bag, and much more!

1. You’ve obviously always been athletic. Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.

My journey began in high school when I wasn't able to clear my medical physical to run track.  I spent all of my free time in the gym trying to prove that I was strong enough!  When I was admitted to play sports, I routinely killed it in the weight room and on the track through college. After college, I maintained my fitness by playing football in the Legends Football League (formerly known as the Lingerie Football League) and have always had an interest in maintaining my functionality as well as my strong physique!

2. Did you always want to be a trainer?

Kind of , I think it was the result of a natural progression.  I started in child care at the fitness centers just so I could have a free membership, then went on to coach track and field for a short while.  I loved kids, but I love seeing the changes in a person's health that I could affect.  Becoming a personal trainer was always in the cards for me, whether I liked it or not! I LOVE my job.

3. What do you love most about your job?

I love when a client shares the simple victories with me.  Like, being able to complete a day at the amusement park without having to take breaks or having the confidence to take and post full body photos.  I love that I can help bring the fun and confidence back into someone's life.

4. What advice would you give to a beginner looking to get into fitness?

Don't be afraid of what you don't know!  If you want to either start a fitness journey or become a trainer, there is so much free knowledge out there, soak up as much as you can and try it out for yourself!

5. Who is a strong woman that inspires you?

I have a former football teammate that suffered an awful motorcycle accident about 18 months ago.  She ended having to get nearly her entire leg amputated. Before that, not only did she play football, but she also served in the Air Force and played volleyball for them. Since then she's competed in the Invictus Games in numerous events and I fully expect to see her represent our country on the Paralympic stage!

6. We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?

I love a good hike!  Not only are you "sneaking in" a workout, but your exploring the earth with your girls! We also bring some resistance bands and other portable apparatuses to do a mini-workout when we reach the summit!

7. While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?

Hmmm, I'm always one to switch it up, but usually it's a romaine salad with a protein (either chicken or shrimp), very light dressing and water.  Afterward, I like to replenish with a protein shake and some sort of carb to refresh my energy stores.

8. What is one item that is always in your gym bag?

Headphones!  How could you actually workout without them??

9. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I played the violin for 9 years and earned my letterman jacket letter for orchestra before I did for sports!

10. What are your top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?

- Move to the Big Apple
- Make a living inspiring others
- Create a sustainable legacy for my future children

11. What’s next for you?

Next, I will be ramping up for Vlogmas! Starting on December 1st, I am committed to posting a video every single day for the month.  The videos you can expect to see are going to be workouts, tips, daily vlogs, and "story time" videos where I share things that I've experienced!

12. What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?

It means strong is the new pretty!! Gone are the days where the female body is only seen as a reproductive tool, we are the most powerful being on earth- time to show it!
