PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT’s December photo contest winner, Shanna Tyler, is turning her love of fitness into an occupation. The 25 year-old yoga teacher posts beautiful fitness photos online coupled with words of wisdom to inspire others to live healthy and be happy. Since starting her fitness journey a year ago, the Jersey City, NJ native has strengthened her mind, body and soul through a consistent practice of yoga, positive thinking, higher learning and sheer hustle. Tell us how your winning photo came about?

This photo came about from the collaboration I have with my lovely photographer TheRealHBMedia. We work along with each other monthly to bring about a visual collection of my vision in sharing a love of fitness and yoga. We always want to make it look fun and accessible to be active!

Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.

My fitness journey is one of love. It has all been about fostering self-love along with love for others. I started this journey exactly a year from now and it has grown into becoming an occupation.

We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?

My favorite group fitness workout is a tie between Vinyasa Yoga and SoulCycle!

While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?

My go-to pre workout meal is usually oatmeal and blueberries as I tend to workout in the morning. My after-workout fuel is a banana and/or peanut butter (sandwich, protein bar, anything!).

What is one item that is always in your gym bag?

My jump-rope is always in my gym bag! It is the perfect addition to intervals to keep the heart rate up.

What are your top 3 fitness Instagram accounts to follow?

Whoa, only three?! First favorite account to follow is Hannah Bronfman; I am always inspired by the many hats she wears and how she balances it all. My close second is Ally Love who is just as much of an inspiration. Last but not least has to be you guys at PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT! I love the positivity and community of girls and young women sweating together.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I am also going for my masters of social work and will eventually be pursuing my doctorate in Psychology!

What are your top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?

1. To get my doctorate degree.
2. To travel and teach yoga
3. To create a welcoming community embracing fitness

What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?

PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT means a lot to me. I have followed this account since I was not even in fitness. It means a united community of girls that embraces each other’s fitness journeys in a way that is inexplicable. When more than two get together, there is such power in it!

How can readers stay in touch with you on social media?

Readers can stay in touch with me via my blog shannatyler.com and subscribing! They also can follow me on Instagram @shannatyler_ (my favorite social account right now). Also, they can feel free to chat and talk fitness, yoga, or anything on my email: shanna@shannatyler.com!

FOUNDER | Aeshia is living her dream. The social entrepreneur unites and empowers girls to be health leaders in their communities. The child obesity epidemic along with the void of entertaining yet positive fitness content and events for young women (ages 13-22) led to the conception and rapid growth of her passionate venture. Before creating Pretty Girls Sweat, Aeshia worked in the TV industry for over 9 years - working her way up from an intern at ABC to a producer on Sundance Channel's celebrated, primetime series ICONOCLASTS. The former high school athlete (track, volleyball, and basketball) and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was also a model for Wilhelmina in New York City. In her free time, the wife and mother of three girls enjoys reading inspirational books, listening to music, eating great food with friends, and enjoying the outdoors.
