PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT’s October photo contest winner, Kayline Anantua, is a 23-year-old digital and social media assistant and graduate of the University of Maryland-College Park. Kayline is also a fitness and nutrition enthusiast who lives her life by the quote, “No one is you and that is your power.” We were able to chat with our October photo contest winner about her fitness journey and so much more. Read on to get to know Kayline!
1. Tell us how your winning photo came about?
The photographer (Allen Stewart - @stewdiophotography) is a good friend of mine and mentioned that he always wanted to do a tennis shoot. He was wondering who had a build and look that could portray a tennis player and he told me I was the first person that came to mind since I am very active.
Tennis is a very interesting sport that requires movement and somewhat flexibility; so does modeling the different poses he wanted for this concept, which is why he purposely meshed together both worlds.
2. We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?
My favorite group workout would have to be anything that involves ab work. It is my favorite muscle to work and there are so many variations of exercises you can do that work that muscle like using a medicine ball, patty cake planks, or sit-ups.
3. While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?
My pre-workout meal is very basic but filling. I love eating 2 slices of toast with peanut butter and a fruit smoothie (usually has pineapple, bananas (helps with cramping), and coconut.
Post workout meal usually involves either chicken or salmon but usually prefer salmon since I’m a fiend for it and the omega 3 fatty acids in it help reduce muscle inflammation. Combine that with a whole lot of veggies and I’m good to go!
4. What is one item that is always in your gym bag?
Gotta have my headphones ALWAYS! I’m a dancer so I bust a move wherever I go. The beat helps me focus and not drag on the time when doing timed exercises. You’ll most likely hear Migos blasting at my station lol.
5. What are your top 3 fitness Instagram accounts to follow?
@gabrielabandy- I tend to follow a lot of fitness models and trainers around my age, she is one of my favorites to look at for leg and ab workouts.
@massy.arias- she is literally the G.OA.T! Love how she lets you into her personal life while also giving creative, out of the box workout routines. She also just became a cover girl, so she is real life goals! @basedbodybabes – perfect mix between lifestyle and fitness, not to mention color scheme is on point
6. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
They would probably be surprised to learn that I am very self-conscious in the gym. One thing I tend to do is look and see how much weight other people are exercising with and I feel weak and embarrassed, but I try to keep in mind that everyone works at a different pace and progression is personal. So I focus on my music and keep a steady pace that I am comfortable with.
7. What are your top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?
I hope to find a career that I love and prosper in it, I hope to have that white picket fence with a big family, and make healthier choices physically and mentally.
8. What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?
PRETTY GIRL SWEAT to me means being comfortable in your own journey and look good doing it. I think it all comes down to having a support system full of motivation, sisterhood, and positive vibes all around.
