PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT’s May photo contest winner, Jennifer Okorie, is a group fitness instructor and the co-founder of PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT's Montclair State University chapter. The 22-year-old college graduate, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition-dietetics this month, loves pilates, dancing, running, and weight training. The Maplewood, NJ native undoubtedly embodies the true essence of our mission here at PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT! Luckily for us, we were able to catch up with Jennifer to chat about her fitness journey and so much more.

Tell us how your winning photo came about?

My sister, Patricia, has an amazing camera and I asked her to take a few photos of me because I am trying to build my brand and she did an amazing job! I danced for 10 years and I wanted to see if I still “had it”, I think I do!
 

Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.

I have always been in love with fitness and eating healthy. I majored in Applied Nutrition and Food Science with a concentration in Dietetics at Montclair State University. I love working out in the student recreation center on campus and I thought, why not share my love of fitness with others? I began getting certifications to teach group fitness classes and other cool certifications that allowed me to use equipment in a cool and exciting way, such as the BOSU Balance Trainer! I am currently working on getting my Personal Training Certification.
 

We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?

It is hands down Pilates! I love to be able to tone and sculpt my body.
 

While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?

My pre-workout meal is a piece of whole wheat toast, PB, and sliced bananas! It is loaded with complex carbohydrates, fruit, and protein. My post-workout meal varies depending on the time of day but it definitely will have protein, healthy grains, and fruit/vegetables.
 

What is one item that is always in your gym bag?

My headphones! I love to be in the zone at the gym.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

Even though I love to eat healthy and workout, I could never turn down a bowl of ice cream. 
 

What are your top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?

I want to build my brand (JennoFit) so that I can inspire people to live long, fit and healthy lives! There is so much that I want to do in the health and fitness world and I believe the sky is the limit!
 

What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?

It means that girls should not be afraid to sweat and that it is a wonderful thing to be healthy! We are even prettier when we sweat!

FOUNDER | Aeshia is living her dream. The social entrepreneur unites and empowers girls to be health leaders in their communities. The child obesity epidemic along with the void of entertaining yet positive fitness content and events for young women (ages 13-22) led to the conception and rapid growth of her passionate venture. Before creating Pretty Girls Sweat, Aeshia worked in the TV industry for over 9 years - working her way up from an intern at ABC to a producer on Sundance Channel's celebrated, primetime series ICONOCLASTS. The former high school athlete (track, volleyball, and basketball) and proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was also a model for Wilhelmina in New York City. In her free time, the wife and mother of three girls enjoys reading inspirational books, listening to music, eating great food with friends, and enjoying the outdoors.
