Tell us how your winning photo came about?
Rudy Jefferson, the owner of Rudy Jefferson Photography, had a vision and he brought it to life. He had an idea to bring us together and show the beauty in being black, taking care of your health and collaborating. It was truly a treat to have him behind the scenes providing creative direction and the energy was so positive. It was a fun shoot for sure!
Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.
"I was involved in athletics since the age of 12, and since then, I've discovered fitness was a way to empower women and make them feel good about themselves." - Taylor Calamese
"I've been active since six years old, starting with cheerleading. And fitness has become a way to motivate people not to get stuck on comparing themselves to others. My motto is, "Be your own goals!" - Alicia Edwards
"Originally, I didn't like working out and then I went to Zumba. From there, my journey has been about finding enjoyment through group fitness and using my platform to motivate women positively." - Brittany Jenkins
"I got introduced to working out back in 2008 through my college friend, Derron Flood. Life comes full circle because he now owns Fitness First Training Services in the Norfolk area. But he gave me a solid foundation to build from and sparked my desire to take better care of my body. From there, I fell in love with the process and helping women improve their quality of life through health and wellness." - Shayla Holder
We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?
We all love bootcamp workouts.
While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?
We like protein bars with minimal ingredients and low sugar content as pre-workout fuel (Kind bars are a great option). And post-workout, we all refuel with a plant-based protein shake followed by a well-balanced meal. Vega and Garden of Life are two of our favorite protein powder brands.
