Tell us how your winning photo came about?

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, everything was shutting down (including gyms), and my city had a "stay at home order" to quarantine. I had to re-evaluate what my fitness journey was going to look like while trying to do the best I could. I began to work out in my backyard outside, and I took this photo to represent that even though I had to stay home, that didn't mean I had to stop. I knew my workouts were going to look different, but I wasn't going to give up physically or mentally.

Please briefly share your fitness journey with us.

Growing up In Utah, I loved to be outside in the landscape surrounded by the beautiful mountains where I would go running and hiking. I was also always involved in sports. I fell in love with soccer and basketball, which had become my two main sports. I continued playing basketball throughout high school and was on competition teams for soccer. After high school, I received a scholarship to play Basketball in St. Louis, MO., for two years. While I was at college, I decided to try out for the women's soccer team (soccer being my first love), and I also received a scholarship to play soccer. After my years of being a two-sport college athlete, I moved back home to Utah and realized I didn't have coaches or anyone guiding me on workouts anymore. From then on, I realized that it was going to be up to me to maintain an active lifestyle, and find new ways to get my exercise.

We believe fitness + friendship = FUN! What is your favorite group fitness workout?

My favorite group workout would have to be a Hip Hop Zumba class. I am no dancer, but my older sister had become a Zumba instructor and would invite me to go to her classes. I had never sweat so much trying to keep up even though I was making up my dance moves half the time.

While working out is important, so is eating the right foods. What is your go-to pre-workout meal? How do you refuel after a workout?

Since I usually workout earlier in the morning, I have a hard time eating before a hard workout because it makes me feel sick. But I will have some type of energy drink mix to give me a boost. After a good workout, I will have lots of protein to help rebuild my muscle, complimented with some carbohydrates to regain energy. I love scrambled eggs with wheat bread avocado toast.

What is one item that is always in your gym bag?

Having headphones is a must. Also, I will always have my foam roller with me to use before and after my workouts.

What are your top 3 fitness Instagram accounts to follow?

@msjeanettejenkins, @massy.arias, @ashleyjoi

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I absolutely do not like seafood.

What are your top three goals you hope to accomplish in life?

To finish my education in business and become a business owner, travel to other countries to learn more about different lifestyles in the world of health & fitness, and become a health lifestyle influencer to teach others.

What does PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT mean to you?

Every one of us is on our own fitness journey. It is easy to get caught up in what other people are doing when we are scrolling through social media and seeing photos of what the world wants you to think "healthy" looks like. What fitness looks like for one person won't always look the same or work the same for everybody else. It's important to figure out your fitness journey and goals. No matter your age, race, or size, we all sweat the same at the end of the day.

Since PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, what is your favorite deodorant?

I prefer any Gel deodorant. I admit I do tend to use men's solely because I think they smell better and work better for those days when you know you are going to crush that hard workout and get your sweat on.

How can readers stay in touch with you on social media?

The best place to reach me is through instagram @anniep23. My DM's are always open. I would love to hear about your fitness experiences.
