Did you know at least 80% of women wear an incorrectly sized bra! An ill-fitting bra can ruin your look and cause health problems. Are you sure you’re wearing your correct size? Follow the instructions below to find out!
STEP ONE: Measure for Band Size
You start by measuring your body beneath your breasts. This is called the “band size” and is also the number in your bra size right before the letter e.g. 34 in a 34b bra. If your band measurement isn’t an exact number, don’t fret! All fractional measurements should be rounded to the nearest whole number. When measuring your band size, you should find a bra that fits snugly on the last set of hooks. A bra will stretch in its lifetime and when it does that’s when you go to the next set of hooks.
STEP TWO: Measure for Cup Size
Stand straight up, so that the measuring tape is parallel with the ground. Make sure that the measuring tape is as horizontal as possible and that it isn’t pulled too tightly. Again, all fractional measurements should be rounded to the nearest whole number.
STEP THREE: Calculate Your Cup Size
You must start out by subtracting your band measurement from the cup measurement. The difference between these two numbers will determine your cup size!
0 = AA
1 inch =A
2 inches= B
A Few More Tips!
- An experienced professional may be aware of what cuts and styles work for you.
- Be aware of sister sizes! To go down a sister size reduce you band size by two, but go up one cup size. For example, you might transition from a 36 C to a 34 D. To go up a sister size increase your band by two, but go down one cup size. For example, you might go from a 36 C to a 38 B.
- If you have uneven cup sizes go with the bigger size. You can always tighten the strap.
- Have at least three bras that you can wash and wear in rotation. Allow the elastic to recover fully before it is put under stress again.
It is now time to get reacquainted with the measuring tape and search for the RIGHT bra! Comfort level is so important when bra shopping. The best way to find the right size is to try them on. Good Luck finding the perfect bra!
