ECHOSMITH: The Official Cool Kids of IndiePop Talk Music, Family and Fitness!

Everyone wants to be a cool kid, but Echosmith has definitely stolen the title of not only being the coolest kids of Indie Pop but the freshest set of siblings to arrive on the music scene. The young members of the Sierota family are far from average. Jamie, Sydney, Noah, and Graham are breaking the mold of the sibling rivalry stereotype with their continuous success.

The quartet has been vigorously climbing the pop charts, all thanks to their SUPER, catchy hit “Cool Kids!” The fan favorite single has made its way into the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, has been featured in Apple’s very own keynote speech, and has caught the attention of the masses on a wide scale.

The Los Angeles natives may be young, but their undeniable talent is evident when they hit the stage on tour. The fantastic four has opened for a variety of bands including Owl City,Twenty One Pilots, and Young the Giant; they’ve even performed at the Vans Warped tour for two consecutive years.

Teen Diaries had the chance to speak with the band on everything from their recent success, the story behind their name, and what we can expect from them in the near future. Check out our exclusive interview below!
How did you come up with your band name "Echosmith?"
We landed on the idea of a blacksmith shaping metals and somehow we landed on Echosmith, you know, shaping sounds. It had a cool meaning and also it was short, simple, and easy to say, and it wasn’t too genre-specific, either.

If the four of you had to give up music - what would you do to be creative?
We'd all be chefs. We're total foodies!

If you had to describe your music style in one word, what would it be?

What has been your fondest memory as a group?
Probably right now it would be visiting the Philippines in August.  We just absolutely fell in love with everyone. They are really passionate for our music too.

If you all could work with any artist(s), living or dead - who/what artists would it be?
Chris Martin of Coldplay and John Lennon.

When did you guys decide to come together to form "Echosmith?"

We grew up playing music at home, trying out different instruments and learning covers of such random artists like Rage, to Rihanna to The Cure – it was all over the place but so much fun. We eventually got an opportunity to play a real show and the rest is history!

What has been the biggest challenge of being in a family band together?
Choosing where we're gonna eat everyday. Lol. Seriously we get along and every band is like a family. The only difference is we are one. We come from the same perspective musically so it's really a cool benefit of being related.

Besides making music, what are your other interests and hobbies?
Cooking and exploring new cities. We've been lucky enough to get to travel and even if we're in a country only for a day we're committed to seeing and doing something that helps us create a memory there.

What are some of your favorite ways to stay in shape?
Squats, running and the treadmill.

Favorite band of all time and why?
The Killers, they have such great songs and stories. Their live show is so exciting too.

With all the recent success of your single "Cool Kids" ... what has the overall experience been like for you all including show appearances, reaching the top 20 on Billboard, being featured in Apple's keynote?

“Cool Kids” from Talking Dreams available in stores and on iTunes now.

It's been so much fun, every day you never know what's going to happen. Anyone could call with a new opportunity. What we love more than anything is the connection we have with so many people through music. We love spreading joy and hope with music!

What can we expect from Echosmith in the future?
Tons of touring, more records and new ways to connect people through music.

What do you think about Echosmith’s hit single, “Cool Kids?”
