Be A Warrior! PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT Teams up With Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time” For Yoga Workout

On March 2nd, PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT joined forces with Disney to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated Ava Duvernay directed film, “A Wrinkle in Time,” with a yoga and meditation workout for 50 Sweat Sisters at Clark Atlanta University.

The epic adventure movie tracks Meg Murry (Storm Reid) and her younger brother, Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), who have been dealing with the disappearance of their father, Mr. Murry (Chris Pine), ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to voyage there. In an attempt to find their father, The Murry children and classmate Calvin O'Keefe (Levi Miller) are guided by three peculiar astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling) and Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), and the children are forced to channel their inner warrior to make the dangerous journey to an extremely evil planet.

Upon arrival at the themed sweat show, guests were able to check in at the registration table, grab a chic black tee with “Who & Which & Whatsit” emblazoned on the front, and enjoy the ambient sounds of our specially curated playlist before the sweat session started. Listen to the tracks HERE.

The evening kicked off with a few opening words from Clark Atlanta University chapter president Kaedi Bowers and then PGS founder Aeshia DeVore Branch took the stage to give a rundown of the event’s activities.

First up were the group icebreakers led by Leilani Esmond, a high school assistant principal in the Atlanta area. Esmond led the girls in two powerful bonding experiences which included the “Be A Warrior” walk, where attendees had to step forward if a statement announced applied to them.

It was an opportunity to show each other that everyone’s path to becoming a warrior is unique. Watch this sneak peek below:

In the second activity, Esmond encouraged the girls to affirm their status as a warrior by stating their name and following it up with the chant, “I am a warrior!”

After engaging in a bit of team building, sweat sisters joined Branch in reciting the PGS pledge.

Once participants were officially inducted into the sweat sisterhood, yoga educator Chelsea Jackson Roberts led the room through a series of empowering poses for 40 minutes that helped to stretch the body and relax the mind.

For the last 20 minutes of the fitness portion of the event, wellness advocate Dr. Crystal Jones helped the ladies engage in deep thought, release their stressors, and realize their power within.

Following the meditation, everyone in attendance snapped a group photo and guests were then able to grab some healthy snacks to refuel, mingle, and take some IG worthy pics in the HaloBooth.

The peaceful night of unwinding drew to a close with an intimate Q&A session with Branch, Jackson Roberts, and Jones. “How often should I practice yoga?” or “What healthy foods do you typically eat in a day?” were some of the questions that the audience asked the panel of health and wellness experts.

Through our exciting partnership with Disney, each student was also able to leave the event with a special invitation to watch the film, a commemorative gift bag, and a PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT membership for the 2018-2019 school year.

When asked about their overall experience at the warrior workout, three CAU chapter members said:

“It was holistically amazing! The instructors were authentic individually, which created a relaxed and positive atmosphere. They were able to pour into our minds and bodies creatively through yoga stretches, breathing techniques, and affirmations. The sisterhood energy was incredible as well, I think every girl left feeling like a warrior.” - Kaedi Bowers

“The event was nothing but good vibes. The instructors were great, they really made me feel relaxed, I forgot I was there at one point. It was nice being around a group of women spreading love & positivity.” - Marleen Salters

“The instructors were amazing! I’ve never felt so relaxed in my life. It was also nice to see all the girls enjoying their time and interacting with each other.” - Kierra King

Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time” is an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.
