Category:

Instagram isn't just a social app. It's a way of life. And if you're constantly trying to stunt on the eye-catching platform it's only natural that you might want to impress your followers with a cool costume idea this year for Halloween. But… Which one? We've rounded up some of our favorite 90’s inspired looks that are sure to take everyone down memory lane and make them double tap pronto. Check out the details below and the key components for achieving the looks. Happy Halloween!

1. Spice Girls

Spice it up this Halloween. Grab a group of friends and channel the 90’s vibe as the Spice Girls.

Victoria Beckham: Posh Spice hasn’t changed much since her Spice Girl Days. Think chic and minimal, Posh wore simple yet chic pieces. Peep her little black dress in the “Wannabe” video.

Mel B: Scary Spice is very well known for her curly mane, so whoever is taking on the role as Scary needs to either adopt voluminous curls or unleash that ferociously beautiful curl pattern for the day.

Emma Bunton: Baby Spice is known for her consistently channeling the classic American Glamour look, despite her English roots. In the “Wannabe” video, she wore an adorable white babydoll dress and a similar black style in the “Say You’ll Be There” video.

Melanie Chisholm: Sporty Spice is more than likely rocking a crop top in every video. Her classic look is one of my favorites. Opt for Adidas classic sweatpants and a sleeveless crop top or a classic t-shirt and finish the look with a pair of vintage sneakers.

Geri Halliwell Ginger Spice obviously gets her name from her ginger locks. She was often recognized as the seductress of the group in her leotard suits. She even rocked a bejeweled suit in the “Say You’ll Be Mine” video.

2. Janet Jackson as Justice in Poetic Justice

If you’re a Janet Jackson fan in the slightest form, you must remember her starring alongside Tupac Shakur in Poetic Justice. Let your fanhood be known and rock this simple, yet definitely dope Halloween costume. Key Components: High-waist jeans, dark long sleeve crop top, “Poetic Justice” Braids, and black newsboy cap.

3. TLC

From “No Scrubs” to “Waterfalls”, everybody knows America’s biggest female group of all time. Get two friends and adopt the honorable title as TLC for the day. If you’re really into Halloween and TLC, learn the choreography to one of their songs! Key Components: Colorful Doc Marten boots, oversized denim, crop tops, Left Eye’s black mark under her left eye, Chilli’s baby hair, and you can’t forget T-Boz’s signature short cut.

4. Danielle Fisher as Topanga in “Boy Meets World”

Topanga was the ultimate American Girl of the late 90’s. Her long thick blonde hair literally made every teenage boy fall in love with her. Her look isn’t one that’s too hard to achieve, because it’s not much different from something you might wear now. So in order to achieve this look, I suggest grabbing a few friends and dressing up as the whole cast; you’d definitely get extra points for including Mr. Feeny. Key Components:Throughout the airing of  “Boy Meets World”, Topanga’s wardrobe was filled with light denim high waist jeans, crop tops, floral prints, and cowboy boots.

TEEN REPORTER (Style) | Christa is from the Motor City, aka Detroit, MI. The 18 year-old is currently studying at Pace University and living in New York City. When it comes to her relationship with fashion, it's actually quite simple. She admires well-made pieces, a minimal color palate, and designers such as Alexander Wang, Phoebe Philo, and Jenna Lyons. Fashion wasn't always her main interest though… basketball was her first love. When she's not writing about style or picking through the pages of i-D or Vogue, you can find her at the nearest television awaiting Kobe Bryant's triumphant return. But don't let her style fool you. She'll ditch her favorite Chelsea boots anytime for a pair of Jordan 1s and a quick game of one-on-one.
