5 Protein-Packed Replacements For Your Favorite Junk Foods

Category:
In a perfect world, cookies would be zero calories, ice cream would be sugar-free, and bread would be protein-based. However, we all know that isn’t quite the case. While I’m a huge advocate for balanced dieting and enjoying your favorite foods, I also like to eat cookies more than once a week sometimes (or grab a pint of ice cream). Did you know there are ways around all of your favorite junk foods to make them healthy? As the health industry is growing, companies are finding protein-packed replacements to be the new hit!

Lucky for you, I’ve done all the taste testing I possibly could (and loved it) to weed out the good ones from the cardboard-tasting ones. I’m happy to say; there are some easy replacements to pretty much every junk food! If you’re trying to cut down on carbs and sugar, I highly recommend trying some of these quick fixes to your cravings! Plus, it can be fun to have a protein cookie for breakfast and end the day with some low-carb and high-protein ice cream!

Without further adieu, here are my five favorite protein replacements to junk foods!

1. Whey2Be! Cookies

($24.99 for 12 cookies)
While these aren’t technically low on carbs, they have 20-grams of protein per cookie! At 300 calories, they use whole-wheat flour, whey protein, and nuts to make for a delicious and protein-packed snack. I love these before a workout because they give me a boost of carbs without too much sugar. They’re also a perfect pair to a glass of milk and Netflix movie! Click here for their website.

2. Enlightened Ice Cream

(Around $5 per pint, depending on which store)
These are AMAZING! With around 350 calories per pint, they come in every flavor you could think of! They have 7-grams of protein per serving and only 3 grams of fat. Plus- only 6 grams of sugar compared to regular ice cream which weighs in at around 25 grams (yikes)! I can vouch that these are very creaming and chunky- an ice cream lover’s dream! You can find them here.

3. Quest Protein-Chips

($16.75 for a box of 8)
If you like BBQ, cheese, and french-onion flavors, these are the snacks for you! With around 140 calories per small bag, you’re getting only five carbs and 18 grams of protein. If that’s not a win, I don’t know what is! You can find them here.

4. Real Good Foods Protein Pizza

(Around $6 depending on which store)
I never thought this would happen--but it did! These personal pizzas only have four carbs per serving and 25 grams of protein. If you love pizza but hate that post-pizza bloat, these are going to be your new go-to. You can order them by the case here.

5. Kodiak Cakes Protein Pancakes

($5.50 per box)
This beloved breakfast food usually is filled with carbs and pretty much nothing else. I’d like to personally thank Kodiak Cakes for creating this mixture of high-protein pancakes! Only 190 calories per serving and a whole 14 grams of protein. It’s a yes from me!

Most of these items can be found at your local CVS or Duane Reade Store. Each website also has a “location finder” option. Hopefully, I helped out my fellow snack food junkies with this list! It can be hard to say “no” to junk food but why not just find a healthy replacement instead?
