4 Go-To Healthy Eateries On Your College Campus

Category:

As a college freshman, I have heard many horror stories about the freshman 15. Gaining a few pounds during college is not only possible but also very common. Here are some of the healthiest spots to eat on campus that will prevent those unnecessary pounds.

1. The Dining Hall

If you want a meal that isn't as greasy as the food at fast food chains, then the dining hall is your best bet. Almost every dining hall comes with a salad bar filled with nutrient-dense vegetables and sides. The setup is similar to a buffet line, so you do have to watch out for portions. Nonetheless, each station has nutrition facts with things such as calories, sugar, and carbs, so you always know what you’re putting in your mouth.

2. Subway

As cliché as it sounds, you can truly “eat fresh” with Subway. The benefit of eating Subway is that you can also look at the nutritional content. Therefore, you can be aware of the high-calorie dressings and saucy meats. The unhealthy scale can go from 0 to 100 real quick if you are not mindful of those factors. The next time you stop by, try their oven roasted chicken sandwich. It is a great source of protein and has fewer calories than their meatball subs.

3. Qdoba

Although Mexican food might get a bad rep in regards to nutrition, Qdoba can definitely refine that perspective. With crisp lettuce, seasoned black bean corn salsa and  fat-free Picante Ranch Dressing, taco salads take the win when it comes to healthy eating. Moreover, a majority of their meal options come with guacamole made from heart-healthy avocados.

4. Starbucks

If you're an avid coffee drinker, Starbucks is life. However, if you're trying to trim your waistline, there are certain menu items you should avoid. Skip beverages that are too rich in cream and sugar. Their Strawberry Acai Refresher is not only tasty but is supplemented with Green Coffee Extract, a substance known to assist in weight loss. When it comes to food, the obvious thing would be to resist getting a pastry altogether. Their Zesty Chicken and Black Bean Salad Bowl is definitely a winner for nutrition and taste. Likewise, their sandwiches are perfect for mindful eaters.
