4 Black Celebrity Couples to Celebrate During Black History Month

Though it may only have 28 days, February is famous as it is Black History Month. While honoring the rich history and incredible achievements of African-Americans is the primary focus of the month, it is also necessary to take the time to celebrate black love. For centuries, love was and continues to be the light that has guided black people through the best and worst of times. In honor of Black History Month, we’re taking a moment to acknowledge a few dynamic duos who each have a unique story that demonstrates the beauty of black love.

Here is a list of four of our favorite black celebrity couples who have displayed their love to the world on countless occasions:

1. Michelle and Barack Obama

In his final speech as President, Barack Obama tugged at all of our heartstrings when he said, "Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, girl of the South Side -- for the past 25 years, you have not only been my wife, the mother of my children, you have been my best friend.” The Obama’s marriage spans over two decades and has withstood two presidency terms, which reiterates the idea that true love is timeless and conquers all.

2. Beyoncé and Jay-Z

“We were friends first, for a year and a half. Before we went on any date, on the phone for a year and a half,” said Beyoncé when asked by Oprah about her relationship with Jay-Z. The ever-so-important foundation Queen Bey and Hov laid early on for their relationship paved the way for them to get married in 2008 and go on to start a family that is now expecting two new additions this year.

3. Solange and Alan Ferguson

When Solange’s project “A Seat at the Table” dropped in 2016, she shared a heartfelt message about her husband that read, “Thank you Alan Ferguson for traveling 70 states with me, believing in my vision, making it come to life....and never using the word impossible. You are a hell of a director, (and a hell of a hubby).” Leaning on each other professionally and personally, Solo and Alan are the perfect example of what it means to be partners.

4. Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert

Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert first grew close a few years ago when Taylor began to take care of Shumpert after he suffered a severe injury. Taylor made her love for Shumpert clear in a 2015 Instagram post when she expressed, “Thank You @imanshumpert for putting the color back in my life! I love you so much!’ The couple welcomed their daughter Junie in 2015 and revealed they were married in 2016, so it’s safe to say that we have a lifetime of love to look forward to with the young couple.
