20 Healthy Ways to Hang with Your Sister

Category:
Did you know National Sister’s Day was August 5th? Although the day has come and gone, we can still celebrate our sisters and reap health benefits. According to Piedmont Healthcare, being social and spending time with others can lengthen your life, help cope with stress, and improve cardiovascular health. PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT is all about fostering our close-knit Sweat Sisterhood, so it’s only right that we help you strengthen your friendships. We came up with 20 great dates for you and your girl to enjoy, check them out:

1. Back to School Shopping

If school hasn’t started for you yet, it’s around the corner! Invite your sister to shop for new supplies and clothes to make the onstart of school seem a little more pleasant.

2. Participate in Community Service

Community service is rewarding for you, your sister, and those receiving the service. It builds character and will look great on your resume. Consider volunteering at a soup kitchen, local homeless shelter, food pantry, national park, etc.

3. Cook Something New

Make things a little more exciting by whipping up something you have never made before. If you don’t like to cook, try something different from the hot bar at your local grocery store. And if you happen to not like the food, that’s something to laugh at.

4. Go to a Party

Every girl loves a party. Treat you and your sister to one. They are great stress relievers, and you are guaranteed crazy dance moves.

5. Go to a Religious Service

If you and your sister are religious, make plans to attend a service together. This will give you both the opportunity to learn more about each other and explore your identities.

6. Visit an Amusement Park

Love roller coasters? If so, experience the thrill with your bestie by your side. If you aren't a fan of roller coasters, amusement parks offer a wide variety of activities including, but certainly not limited to carnival games, contests, shows, and yummy park food!

7. Look Through Old Photos

If you and your sister have known each other for a long time then you'll love this! Pictures hold memories, and memories evoke emotions. If you haven’t known your sister for a while just looking at old pictures of each other will be amusing.

8. Chill at the Park

If you want a low-key hang out, this is the place to go to enjoy nature and relax your mind. Prefer to be active? Feed the ducks, hop on the swings, go down the slides or bring balls and a frisbee for a good time.

9. Host a Game Night

This affordable option is more enjoyable with a lot of people, and a fun way to foster healthy competition. From cards to board and video games, a variety of options will keep everyone engaged and interested.

10. Mall/Outlet Shopping

You can never go wrong with shopping, right? Every girl can find the need for new clothes, accessories, kitchen supplies, etc. Even if you don’t need anything, try on clothes and take pictures. Thinking of yourselves as models will help brighten the mood!

11. Host a Movie Night

Whether it's Netflix, Hulu, On Demand, DVD, or normal TV, there is always a movie on. To make the date more fun, pick a genre that you usually don’t watch. And if you don’t like the movie you and your sister will have another horrible, but a hilarious memory to look back on.

12. Organize/Clean your House

Ok, I know this sounds boring. Dates are supposed to be entertaining, and cleaning isn’t. But it can be when you have help! You may even get better cleaning and organization ideas with help from your sis, so turn up the music, let the jokes fly and get your space together.

13. Have a Picnic

This can be as simple as eating sandwiches outside on your front yard. Or you can go all out and bring a blanket and a picnic basket full of healthy foods to the park. Lunch or dinner alfresco, anyone?

14.  Visit a New (or old) Restaurant

Go someplace fancy or visit your favorite fast food spot. No matter if you branch out and order something new or stick to your usual, you're sure to enjoy time with your sister over a good meal.

15. Road trip

What a great opportunity to judge your sister’s driving! Just kidding. Go somewhere far or go somewhere near, and don't forget to bring snacks and queue up a bomb playlist.

16. Visit a Skating Rink

Skating is a very fast-paced activity full of freedom and excitement! Skate to the rhythm of the music, laugh at yourselves when you fall, and enjoy the classic skating rink snacks. Plus, this is a great workout, and who doesn’t love that?

17. Loosen Up with a Spa Day

Nails, facials, massages? Every girl’s dream! Ok, maybe not, but every girl needs to take a break to be pampered. After a rough week at work or school, treat you and your sister to a spa to rest.

18. Swim at a Local Pool

Swimming is another great workout, and if you can't swim, your sister can begin teaching you the basics. Not interested in swimming? Chilling poolside is a great way to relax and take in a little vitamin D, but don't forget the SPF.

19. Go Thrift Shopping

Little money? No problem. Oftentimes thrift shops have items that your local retail store won't for low prices. Go through your closet beforehand to donate the items you no longer wear.

20. Get a Workout in!

The best for last. Working out is better with a sister, and even better with sisters. Your sisters will push you to be the best, while you are doing the same for them. Plus, it’s a great way to relieve stress.
