After hitting a hard workout, the first thing you probably want to do is crash, but before that, you should take a minute to cool down and stretch those muscles you just worked. Many people don't realize the importance of stretching before and after a workout, so they skip it altogether. Stretching after exercise helps to loosen up joints and muscles so they don't get tight. According to Active, “regular stretching helps improve flexibility, increases the range of motion and reduces the risk of injury caused by lesions of the connective tissue.” Regularly including it in your routine is also the way to go for increasing or maintaining mobility and flexibility as you age.
